MS Outlook into Outlook Express

How to change from Microsoft Outlook into Outlook Express as I find MS Outlook too “heavy” to handle just in order to send and receive simple mails. I am using Win XP.

Import and Default Application

First, verify the location of your Outlook.PST file. For Outlook 2003 on XP, it should be here:

C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Then, open Outlook Express and select File / Import / Messages

Select Outlook as the source type and follow through the steps.

You may have to manually setup your email accounts. You may also need to export your Outlook Address Book (Contacts) so that you can then import them into OE.

As a final step, click on Tools / Options.
On the General tab, click the buttons as needed to make OE the default mail and newsgroup handler.
