MS outlook Vs. Outlook Web ACcess

By e_canaan ·
Hello everyone,
We just finished deploying Windows 2003 small business server with Exchange.

1 ) I have one mobile user who's asking if it's possible to use MS Outlook instead of Outlook Web access, when he's on the road. (he doesn't like OWA !!!)
Is this possible????

2) Also, how can I find out the exact SMTP settings for the Exchange server(i.e smtp.company.com??)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Canaan

I'll answer the first part. If you user is running an XP Pro SP1 machine with Outlook 2003 then you can setup and run RPC over HTTP which will allow him to open Outlook anywhere in the world and have a complete working Outlook experience.

On the Outlook client you will want to make sure you give him the option to go Offline or Connect when he opens and also setup public and private store in cached mode. Cached mode is a client side setting as well and will help with any slow connections or speed issues.

One more thing, set this up on the LAN and make sure the entire database replicates. This will not be fun if you set it up remotely.

Good luck
