MS Project Shared Resources

by jm1974 . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

Hi.

I am in a position of managing several projects with a shared resource pool. There are dependencies between the projects, however some projects have higher priority for both the business and for resources.

I have created a project plan for each project and a “resource pool” project which I am able to bring in the shared resources.

I then have a “master” type project sat above them all and linked them in to give me an overview of all projects together.

What I would like to be able to do is to assign a priority for each project and for each resource, such that resource A will concentrate on Project A, but would switch to completing their tasks in Project B if they became critial to the Master project or Project B and that when there is a scheduling conflict between projects that one would take priority for a resource over the other.

Does that make sense? I am not sure where and how the levelling would take place and what assumptions MS project would make. Short of doing this all manually (at which point I might as well use excel) I am a bit stumped – can anyone help?

Thanks,

John
