MS Word 2000 not responding

I have a user on Windows 2000 using Office 2000 pro, whenever he attempts to open a document, Word does not respond or it will open one document and then proceed to not respond to any other action after that. There are no error messages. I have removed and re-installed the application with no effect. Does anyone know what’s happening and what can I do to correct this?
