    MSN explorer starting slowly

    Locked

    by cojsl ·

details: AMD Athlon, 2GB ram, 25GB free hdd space, Asus mobo, XP pro. MSN explorer started and loggen on fine for the 1st 3 mos of machines life, now it takes approx 2-3 minutes before it will allow login. it displays the welcome screen, but givesa “busy” hourglass for 2-3 mins before it allows a click on the “login” button.
    troubleshooting to date:
NSW 2002 registry clean- no affect
reinstall from CD and fresh download- no affect
virus scan- no affect, none found
uninstall/reinstall IEcomponents- patched issue for one startup, then went back to slow start
uninstall/reinstall MSN explorer as XP component- no affect
unistalled NSW and realplayer (realplayer only new app around failure time)
what am I missing? MSN tech support has been less than helpful
    Thanks in advance!

I don’t have much insight to this problem, but it occurs to me that there is a little more detail that you could go into.

Which AMD Athalon chip are you using? (I don’t honestly know if this will matter, but someone with more insight may want to know)

Go to START-> RUN and type MSCONFIG and hit ENTER. This will bring up a window that has a TAB for STARTUP. This will tell you what items your computer starts running when you boot up. There may be something that is kicking on at STARTUP that is causing it.

How do you connect to your ISP? Dialup? Cable? DSL? Satellite? WinXP has some software already built in for high speed connections (WinPOET, I think?), and if you’ve reinstalled the software, you may have two instances of it installed and running.

Well, I reiterate that I don’t *really* have any practical insight into what may be causing your problem, but I hope my questions/suggestions helps you at least “clarify” your problem a little better.

      Good Luck!
