MSN Messenger 4.7

By L_Skywlker ·
I have MSN Messenger 7.0 installed and running on my XP Pro computer right now. However, when I'm not logged into 7.0, MSN Messenger 4.7 will automatically log itself in in the background without me knowing about it. I try going into the Add/Remove Programs to remove it but it's not listed. I can not find any program files for 4.7 that I can uninstall. Therefore does anyone know how I can disable or uninstall 4.7 so it will stop logging itself in automatically?

To make it appear there, you need to edit the file named sysoc.inf.
In XP, go to Start,My Computer,C Drive,Windows,Inf and look for that file called sysoc.inf.
You can open that file by right clicking on it and choosing "open with", and pick notepad. Look for the following line:

and remove the word "hide" while leaving the commas on place.

go back to Add/Remove Windows components and uninstall.

I checked into the Add/Remove Windows components and I couldn't find it in there either.

That would be Windows Messenger 4.7 and you can disable it by clicking Start, Run and type gpedit.msc Group Policy Editor opens, expand Administrative Templates, Windows Components and select Windows Messenger folder. Enable both Do not allow and Do not automatically start. This will disable Windows Messenger from running.

Hope that helps!
