MSN Messenger 6 question

By theav ·
A friend and I are trying to work with MSN Messenger 6. We are able to communicate through the chat window, and to send files back and forth. However, when we try Whiteboard, Audio, Remote Assistance, or Application Sharing, nothing works.

With Audio, we get connected, but cannot communicate. After a short time, the connection srops. I have a cable modem and a Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 router. He has a DSL modem and the same router. We are both on Windows XP Home. My connection information tells me that I am not behind a firewall, and that I am not configured for NAT.

With the other features, such as Whiteboard, I receive a message that it is not supported on versions earlier than MSN Messenger Version 6. I'm not sure why that is happening, since both of us are at the latest version of MSN Messenger.

Is there any way to get around these problems, or should I just scrap MSN Messenger and move to a different messenger service?

If it is not the firewall blocking any ports, try this.... get both users to install MSN 4.7 first then install 6.0 over it...

Hi,

you both have to these steps.
most likely a firewall is blocking the communications.
Make sure it's disabled (as a test)
here is how to to that:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283673

second go to www.grc.com and do the shields up test (when the xp firewall is disabled) , to see if the linksys is configured as a firewall.
( the results should be closed or open, not stealth=firewall)
If you have anything stealth means that there is a firewall, then you have to go through the documentation.

next go to start, run and type in cmd
in the window type ipconfig/all.
(the ipadress that you get should not be a 192.168.x.x nor a 169.x.x.x nor 10.x.x.x , if so you are doing natting)
pls download and reinstall the latest version of msn 6.
