MTS Migration Timing

By mary.williams ·
If you don't have all your class modules built for DLL's that you are going to run in MTS, what are the consequences of migrating to MTS with incomplete DLL's? Can you add new class modules into the DLL at will?

Yes and no.

If you aren't changing the interfaces on the classes that already exist or the GUID for the component, then old apps should still be able to call the existing objects without much problem.

However, if you intend to make the newobjects "public" then the clients will need to know about them. Therefore, you'll need to export the package each time you add NEW PUBLIC functionality. This isn't a big deal if you're not making a lot of changes. If you intend to make lots of changes, I wouldn't put them up on MTS every time. Plan out your strategy to do updates and you'll save a ton of headaches.

MTS/COM+ are pretty easy to work with but you just have to plan ahead.

Good luck!

The first answer looks good to me. If that doesn't work, try something else. Hope this helps.

If you are still tackling this problem, perhaps you should consider calling your local super-hero.
