Multiple connections to a Workstation

By JonnB ·
Is there a limit to the number of concurrent connections that an NT workstation can have?
If yes, what is that number and how can you determine/view or change this value?

NT workstation has a limit of 10 concurrent connections. Using My Computer or NT Explorer, right click on drive C: and click on sharing to view\change number of connections.

Windows NT Workstation has a limit of 10 incoming concurrent sessions. This means that any number of computers can access the workstation but only 10 computers may establish a connection to it at one time. As soon as one computer drops its session, another may take its place.

Right Click on any HDD in Nt Explorer... click on sharing to view connections.

Note: Incoming concurrent connection Limit does not affect outgoing sessions which are only limited by your hardware.

Well the other two answers are correct but I don't thing they answered your last question of can you change this value. The answer is no. Sorry.

Windows NT Workstation 4.0 supports a maximum of ten simultaneous inbound network connections. This is by design and is great for a peer-to-peer network of say 10-15 machines. You can just look at the white papers for NT and they will tell you that you can have 10 inbound concurrent connections but I there is no way to change the value. Just my two cents. Have a nice one.

Well, technically, you CAN change the value, to anything LESS than 10. If you want others not to be able to access your workstation, you could set it to 1.

What do you think, caveshepherd? Just curious, why did you ask? :)
