Multiple lines in the Win11 Explorer file name

Is there any way to get the whole filename to appear in WinExplorer instead of 1-2 lines with dots? It does show the full name when clicked, but I would like to do this for inactive files as well – all files. Is there any advice for this, for example by editing the Registry? Or some small sw fot this?
Thanks for the tip.

Honestly, there has always been a limit on how much information can be displayed on a file name. This goes back for decades when memory was so expensive and was a premium. I just don’t see how it can be forced to show characters beyond the current limit, short of writing a custom, brand-new operating system. Most modern programming languages are based on systems written/designed over 50 years ago. Technology evolves over time and memory has become dirt cheap, but some traditions don’t change overnight. Back when I had my first Apple II computer in 1977, file names were limited to 8 characters and memory was measured by the kilobyte.
Don’t forget that a current Timex or Casio digital watch has exponentially more memory/computing power than the first US space shuttle.

I see a great rundown of alternatives at https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/v40xgu/how_to_edit_and_use_tags_and_metadata_for_folders/
But the filename has limits so the tag or comment will have to go elsewhere.

For files with longer names, I’ve found I can maximize the File Explorer window and see most details.

Showing Full Filenames in Windows 11 Explorer

Hi Peter,
Unfortunately, Windows Explorer doesn’t natively support displaying long filenames on multiple lines. However, you can try these options:
Use Details View: Switch to “Details” view for full filenames in the Name column.
Third-Party File Managers: Tools like Directory Opus or XYplorer might offer the flexibility you’re looking for.
Registry Tweaks: No direct registry edit exists for multiline filenames, but increasing display sizes might help.Let me know if you need more info!
