multiple networks

By david_grant ·
Is it possible to take a small unix network (7 stations) running NT machines as the user interface and install a second NIC card in order for my LAN to communicate with it in order to retrieve data from a database. Setting up an ODBC server and allwill be rather expensive.

Yes. You have several choices:

1. Add a second NIC card to any PC that needs to be on both networks. Configure the second NIC's with appropriate IP, gateway, etc.

2. Put a second NIC on the server that has the data, and configure it appropriately. That machine will then respond to both networks.

3. Put a second NIC on an NT Server if you have one, and let it be the gateway between the networks. You can also do this with one of the unix boxes.

4. Put a router between the networks.
Good luck
