multiple Office version install

By BHunkus ·
On an NT Workstation, I tried to install Excel 2000 (already had Office 97 Pro on machine). The addition caused problems with Outlook and Access 97, so I uninstalled the Excel 2000 and Office 97 and just reinstalled Office 97. Did not fix the problems! I cannot open Access 97, I get an access violation error, and I get two missing dll errors when I open Outlook (though it does open). Have done numerous uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail. Any ideas how I can just get back to where I started with just Office 97 on the machine with no errors???

Yeah most of the time multiple installs of ms off will mess up things.

Check here and download the clean up utility. After it is done and you restarted and removed all instances of office you might be able to install it and have it run with no errors.

Good Luck

Thanks for the prompt answer, but this utility didn't even see Office 97. Fixed the problem, though, just reinstalled Office 97 in a folder other than default. Not ideal solution, but...

Go to Microsoft's website and do a search in the downloads area for this program.

msicuu2.exe

It is their msi cleanup utility that will remove unwanted and sometime unaware "leftovers" from installs and uninstalls that used msi technology.

Install the program and run it. Highlight the Office 2K program and select to uninstall (office 97 didn't use msi technology so it won't be there). Let the script run and you should be able to load Office 97 clean without problems.

I have Office 97 Pro and 2K Pro coexisting just fine. Make sure you have SP2 for 97 and SP1a and SP3 for 2K installed.

Hope this helps.
