Multiple Switches conected

By mtorres7 ·
I want to know if there is performance degradation using multiple switches connected. In my case, I have a Dell PowerConnect model 5448, and a regular 24 10/100 with 2 gb ports at another floor connected. From this second swith, I need to connect another switch, and my doubt is if it is the same if I use another switch or is better idea to wire single cables directly from the second switch.

Your Gigabit ports should be home-run connected....

In addition to creating a bottleneck, you're creating another point of failure.

By hanging a second switch off the second gigabit port of the first switch, you're doubling the amount of traffic over the first switch uplink port.

Also, if the first switch, or it's uplink fails, the second switch will lose all connectivity.

What is the right configuration? Any kind of switch or router? Cisco Catalyst?
