My CDRW reads a blank CD as Audio

By vcs1 ·
Whenever I put a blank cd into my rewritable drive, My Computer displays an Icon and list it as an Audio CD. If you open it, it shows Track01 with a label Audio CD. I have changed out the drive from a Matshita to a NEC and still same results. It is a Master on the Primary using an Ultra DMA Ribbon. My boot disk is a ATA100 on a Raid Controller.
Help if you can.

My CDRW reads a blank CD as Audio

Just guessing on this but ...

It is possible that if the software doesn't see data files and structures, it assumes that it's a music disk. That it say it is a Audio disk doesn't mean that it's bad, just that it 'sees' the disk as audio (since it can't find data structures).

To test it, put in the blank and see if Win Explorer or a DOS session says it has data. I would guess it will tell you that it has an unknown format or file system or some other error that indicates it isn't a data disk.

Until something gets put on it, music or data, it's jsut a blank disk. Like an unformatted FD or HD. If you format a 20gb as 6gb, then it's 6gb to the systems.

It is displayed as an audio using explorer. I have put this disk in another system with the same drive, and it displays as a blank cd.

Added Information:
Its properties shows 1.2 gigs used, 0 space available. My system is an Athalon 1.2 gig processor on an Abit motherboard with RAID technology. The RAID has two 40 Gig Maxtor hard drives mirrored on the Masters, and a 30 gig Hard Drive as the secondary slave. The standard controller has the CD-RW on the master and a DVD, and an Iomega Zip 250 on the secondary controller. I have cleaned out the registry of all CD information to the point that My Computer did not display them. Ireinstalled Windows 98se and still have the problem. Could it be a problem with the Raid on the motherboard? I have called Abit, but I seem to get the same tech, that gives no help. I can't even get any background information from him. I did talk toa Kevin once there that was very helpful.
