“my computer” “network places” “my documents” open but won’t close

I have an acer laptop and programs “my computer” “network places” “my documents” open automatically but won’t close and there is no way of closing them. Everytime you power up the computrer they open.

Any help would be apprecited.

HAve you tried running SpybotSD (Get it at http://www.download.com) it’s totally free. then try Windows update. YOu also might check out MSCONFIG to see what’s happening at start up

But you might want to grab Sysinternals Autoruns from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/Autoruns.mspx

I see that you’ve been around computers for awhile so I won’t try to walk you thru everything that Autoruns will show you but it is a much better alternative to msconfig.

Also, if you have “System Restore” turned on try restoring back to a date before you had the problem.
