My dell ispiron will not power up. What could cause this?

By cleatough ·
(Yes it is plugged in/and/or has power). It will begin power-up for about 5 seconds, click, and immediatly turn off. I am uncertain what exactly to replace.

Have you let the battery fully charge?

Also...sometimes just removing the battery & plugging it back in solves that problem....don't know why, but I've seen it a number of times.

If you hear a click

It m ay be your hard drive has failed, the only moving parts in a latop are Hard drive, CD/DVD ROM, and a fan.

Try to either boot to diag partition, if its a Dell/HP/Gateway/IBM laptop and test it. Or get something like a BartPe boot CD to test the drive.

Could be overheating ...

Check the exhaust ports and the intake port(s) where the fans reside.

Give all the ports a blast of compressed air from one of those aerosol cans that come with the little plastic straw for aiming the air jet.

If you are aiming the air jet into the parts where the fans are, use something like a cotton bud (non-metallic) to hold the fan still, because if the fan turns backwards against the air flow, it can generate an electrical current which flows backwards into the laptop and can cause damage to the motherboard.

Also, when using the can of compressed air, try your best to keep the can itself UPRIGHT while aiming with the straw. If the can itself is tilted too much, there is a chance you might be blasting propellant instead of air, which is not a good idea.
