My laptop shuts its self down

By grommitsteed ·
I have a Toshiba 1800 satellite laptop and for some reason it shuts down randomly, it also shuts down if I try to install anything from a copyed cd. I can't seem to get to the bottom of this. It does sound like it is over heating but im sure its not.
Any ideas !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about the battery?

by brianmpenn In reply to My laptop shuts its self ...

If you are certain about heat, I would then look at the power supply/battery combo. I had a similar concept going on a Dell Inspiron 7000. The MOBO plug for the power supply had a short in it and would only maintain power if the cord was pushed ina certain direction. Additionally the battery was shot and thus would not keep the system up when it lost connection with the power supply.

What about these options?

by nrayburn In reply to My laptop shuts its self ...

While working in the Portable tech dept at Gateway I got calls like this and here is what we tried:

What happens with the battery out and the AC running as the only power source?

Try going into the BIOS and set the Power Managment to "OFF" or "Disabled"

Your battery may need to be re-conditioned.

As to the heating issue it very well could be something to that effect so make sure that the laptop is getting air. If it is and problem persists and none of the above help and you're still in warranty get it looked at.

Hope this helps- Storman Norman
