My Print Spool Stops - Problem creating a batch file to fix it.

By byte2hard ·
This is my first post to TechRepublic, I'm a log time reader. One of the computers I work on, an Windows XP pro computer, intermittently stops printing to a HP 4si. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the print driver, but haven't resolved it yet. My work around is a batch file that has the commands:

Net stop spooler
Net start spooler

This seems to do the trick, but I would like to add one more item and cant seem to find the right command. After I run the batch file, I have to go to Printer Spool Icon in the System Tray and right click to bring up the command Refresh. I would like to know how to place this Refresh command into my batch file.

Many Thanks, I've learned a lot from the Tech forums and articles posted here.

When the spooler is restarted

then everything should be refreshed. Sometimes the folder does not refresh the icons if left open during the process, but you shouldnt need the folder open in order to print.

P.S. it does sound like the printer driver is causing the issue, or the cable connecting the printer to the system.

If I manually refresh the printer starts immediately

If I manually refresh, the printer starts immediately, but I hadn't let more than 20 seconds pass to see if the computer will auto refresh. It will be nice to have it refresh immediately by a command. If any one knows of a Print spool refresh command I would be grateful to see it.
