need advice.

By husp1 ·
I service multiple home based users on a "bartering" basis, servicing some systems for a gentleman I was paid with a "server" (dual core P3 450). Never having used or worked on one I have no idea what tools I should use or what they do. Also this came with reformated drives and no OS, (clean as a babys behind!!) Are there any good freeware systems that I should look at? and could you reccomend some referance sites that I can use to understand the unit better?

you can make an awesome machine using Linux. Figure out what hardware you have first. Include the processor(s) memory, drives, (type and model)controllers (RAID?, Video, Network)
you can then download Fedora from Red hat, debian, or any one of a half dozen distributions. For applications, some will come with your distribution, you can get others from (remember to donate)when choosing your software consider the role you want this "server" to play. web server? application server? engineering workstation? office machine? The possibilities are endless, enjoy, experiement, and learn!
