need advice on back up unit

By Flying_Dude ·
Howdy people, recently the company decided to purchase a used server to replace our current "server". A windows xp pro box with a ext hard disk as the back up, but not used at all.
For the "new" server we decided to use tape back up, as we are fairly tight on budges, I need suggestions on which tape back up units would be most sufficient.

It will be using windows 2000 standard server, no other server ware will be installed. please advice.

DDS4 drive

The DDS4 drive is around $200-400 bucks plus tapes. I prefer the seagate scorpion drives.

Go onto pricewatch.com and go to strorage/tape drives/dds4.

you will find what you need.

What are your criteria? What capacity, backup time window, restore time window, desired drive interface, backup application software, OS support? I like DAT drives but would move to AIT for more capacity and shorter time window, the tapes are more expensive though.

Yes the same old questions still remain

What are we willing to trade off capacity/relibility/expence or time in this case I would imange that it would all depend on how much has to be backed up, how many backup copies that they will have and how long they are prepared to spend in restoring things when something goes wrong. There isn't really an easy answer for this one is there?
