Need help using a CD in a DVD player

By Shedler ·
I am looking to create a CD that has photos on it that I can give to family members to view on their DVD player. Is there any software currently available that will allow my to burn a CD of digital images that can be viewed in a DVD player? Is my only option to buy a DVD burner? Any thoughts on the topic are appreciated.

A cheaper alternative would be to purchase Paint Shop Pro (if you don't already have it) and use PSP Thumbnail option to create a singe "job" file that has all of your pictures on it. Then burn a data cd with all the pictures and the job file. You can also set it to autoload psp browser and the job file whenever someone inserts the cd into a computer drive. This will not work on DVD players.

The above link is to PhotoCDBrowser 2.71 ... I've not used it, but you may be able to do similar things with this freeware.

DVD burners are new... and I do not know if DVD cd's burned in them will play on a standard DVD machine. I'd wait for technology in this area to grow a bit.

Is your family's DVD player hooked up to a computer? If it is then it probably means that it can read regular CDs. If that is the case then what becomes important is the format of your digital images. If you burn .jpg files then they can be viewed using Microsoft Photo Editor (free) or Windows Imaging(also free)

It all depends on what the DVD player your family has can handle. The higher end DVD's can handle more formats than standard DVD player's. I would recommend saving them in a jpg format and then burn them onto a cd. Worse case scenario you are outa $1 for the cost of the cd.

If the your family members' DVD players are hooked up to their computers, then no problem. Just create the disk with any graphic manipulation tool. JASC's Paint Shop Pro is great. ULEAD has a number of cool and inexpensive tools.

If you're talking about DVD players connected to a home entertainment system then you're in tougher territory. You likely need a 'real' DVD burner, which puts you into expensive and uncharted experimental territory. (Despite that Ad on TV - you know the one with thenewlyweds...)

If the dvd player is a stand alone dvd player (not a dvd attached to a computer), you're done, there's no way to create a dvd like format without a dvd burner.

But...
If the dvd player is a device of a PC, you can burn any cd rom (standart ) that the dvd
will read it without any problems

Hope it helps!!

I thought you were correct until I found a piece of software called Pinnacle Express that says they can take still images or videos and burn them on a normal CD-R that can be viewed on a DVD player. Their website www.pinnaclesys.com has a demo that looks okay. If I find they are lying, I apologize.
