I’m currently in the research phase for a new remote access project I’ve been tasked with.
The basic goal of the project:
At project start I’ll only have 10 users (to test) the remote connection functionality. It will, based on results,gradually expand over 12-18 months — adding more users until we reach our full number of remote users — 100.
We are rolling out a brand new internally developed database system based on MS SQL Server 7.0. We need to users the ability to remotely connect to this system, as secure as possible, and mirror as much as possible the performance levels they’d get using the system in the office on our Fast Ethernet LAN.
Minimum Requirements:
Broadband (I’d say at least DSL)
Must be Secure
Must be reliable
We aren’t a billion dollar behemoth like Microsoft or IBM, so I’m trying to get a handle on the amount this will cost as well.
Any input is more than appreciated.
Right now I’m looking at VPN and conversing with my TeleCommsupport engineers.
