Need some help with Microsoft Excel

I am not very agile in excel... but about two weeks ago i created a pivot table for a huge worksheet and today it would not update the data in the pivot table. I deleted the old pivot table and went about creating a new one. When i attempted to make a new one i got all the way through the pivotTable wizard. When the wizard was closing (which would have been when the information would have been put into the table) i got a message that read

"The pivotTable field name is not valid. To create a PivotTable report, you must use data that is organized as a list with labeled columns. If you are changing the name of a PivotTable field, you must type a new name for the field."

any ideas?... i need to get this thing back up and it was very weird that it all of a sudden wasnt working. please help...

Define the range

one of the steps the wizard leads you through should ask you to identify the range where your data is located. Delete the text in this box and select the range of cells where your data is found. Also, make each column has a title
