Need to wipe laptop – bitlocker preventing it and trying to use gparted

    Hi All,

I have a old work laptop which they said I could keep on leaving. Can’t speak to IT as they won’t let me raise a ticket without work email address. I would like to use windows 10 on this

I basically need to wipe it but it has bitlocker on it. I do not have any recovery key or password for this. Diskpart command has been disabled and there is no way for me to turn bitlocker off. Tried using dban and this didn’t work

I put gparted on a USB and this did work and allows me into the graphical interface. Problem is the option for deleting the drive has been greyed out.

I can access the terminal section (similar to dos prompt) part of gparted. I was wondering if there is any command where I can override this? Any advice what to do?

    Thanks
    Phil

Maybe someone else may offer a solution, but I think only your old company can help. Do you have any personal contacts with their IT department? More than likely, bitlocker will prevent you from your stated goal/desire as that is what it was designed to do, unless you have the required code/password. I wish you luck, but I cannot be of more help than that.

If you can replace the disk drive (preferably by an ssd) I expect you can install Windows 10 on that. Be sure you can download the drivers for this laptop for Windows 10 from the makers site.

This is how it is supposed to work.

It’s part of the security to cut down on laptop thefts. Try a new drive but if that fails then the laptop is hardlocked at a hardware level.

Return it to the company and move on.

How do you know what my old company can or cannot do? Have you worked there?
