Netscape does not display some images.

By eusi ·
I recently partially installed Netscape 6.2.1 on my Win 98 Desktop machine because I would get a fatal error periodically while using Netscape 4.7x. I can not see some images. Instead of some images I get a text hyperlink. I do not have this problemin Internet Explorer or Netscape 4.7x. I just reinstalled Netscape 6.2.1 and let it do a full install but the problem is still there. Should I uninstall and try again or is there a setting I am missing. My friend says it may be the location of the cache file but I don't know why that would effect some image and not all. Plus, I can not seem to locate the place to change the cache path.
I hope this is enough info.
Thanks in advance.

When you installed Netscape, did you check all of the file association boxes?
If some file types are not associated with Netscape, it may not open them correctly for viewing.

Netscape 6X is based on the Mozilla browser. Go to www.mozilla.org and see if there are any FAQs on missing images.

I used to work on webpages and I will let you, Netscape 6 doesn't work with some sites. Each browser displays certain pages differently. Netscape is more suceptible to display problems than IE (especially 6). For instance if I am coding an HTML page, it may display properly in IE but not Netscape 4.7, or maybe it is fine in 4 but not 6.

You are probably looking at pages that are not coded for Netscape 6. I did work for major publishing companies and they often use code or Java scriptsthat do not display well in every browser. Many of these companies choose a look that they like and they use that even if it only looks great in IE (or sometimes only in Netscape). I as surprised how many web pages are not coded to work with all browsers.

Each browser has extra coding features that it supports/doesn't support. There are HTML standards but each company has made proprietary "additions" that the other doesn't support.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time on it if you can use another browser on the affected pages. If it is bad code you can't do anything to fix it except notify the website and hope that they rewrite the code.
