Netscape -> IIS Athentication .... tr

By Robert W. ·
Just newly moved our web stuff to a new NT IIS. Problem.. on a few folders we would like to let people access it with logon name and password (those will be created on our domain's user list). When logon to that site, IE doesn't seem to have a problem with it. However, Netscape just won't let me in (v4.71) Authorization Failed, Retry? I have set IIS to use only Basic Authentication (Password is send in Clear Text) but Netscape still won't take it. We do not attempt to use anonymous access, since we want to allow access to a few. Any ideas? If you need further info, please email me at robwu7@hotmail.com Thx!

Sounds like a permissions problem. Make sure your netscape users have "Log on locally" right on the web server. This is needed for Basic Authentication to work.

Wow, it worked! Thx. Just curious... why does users have to logon to my IIS locally? And if they do so, can they browse more then just the folders that they been allowed to?

There are two things that you need to check to make sure everything will work. #1 is to make sure that users have the right to log on locally to the IIS server. This is set in user manager on the server under "Policies" - "User Rights" Once that is done open up IIS and on your default website make sure that you set a domain under your security for Basic Authentication.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply, but clpadmin was a bit quicker.
