Network Adapter Install on NT4

By anamenow ·
Hi,
I am trying to install a network adapter (DFE530TX) on an NT4 workstation. I try doing this in the control panel -> network. I click "have disk" and "ok" for the driver but then the system tells me that there is no network card present. The card is physically attached AND working because I have it working on the same machine (different OS (win 98)).
Any suggestions? Thanks

You have to have a NT compatible driver for the nic. Go to the manufacturers driver and download a nt compatible driver for the nic.
For less trouble (and pnp support) fo for w2k.
NT is not pnp and when installing hardware you could get those kindof messages.

1. Try manually configure your network card and use free resource dma / irq on your computer (you can use a small program on your driver disk like setup.exe) ie: dma=3, irq=0x300
2. Reboot your computer and start NT once more.
3. Install your network card adapter with new dma and irq you've assigned.

Before you install the driver, browse your a:drive.you should find the folder that states nt40,or winnt40,if you see that folder, now go back to the procedure you described you above, when you say "have Disk" do not press ok,because nt does not have the pointer to the necessary driver.you need to tell the path in your case A:\winnt40
or whichever directory you discovered whe you browsed. That will get you going,Please reply if successful & good luck. Aziz

NB. You do have the oem driver,i hope.If you dont I can e-mail you the drivers. If you have the oem diskette.follow my instructions
& you will be up & running.Since it is a PCI
card you don't have to do anything about irq & io port,Good Luck
