Network adapter won’t show up in winipcf

I can’t get tcp/ip to work on my windows 98 laptop over our companies LAN. The loopback test works fine, which tells me the protocol is set up OK. I also have IPX/SPX installed because we have novell servers, and I have no problem using any of thenovell resources. I can also see other windows resources because I also have IPX/SPX bound to windows networking. I am wanting the TCP/IP to obtain an address from a DHCP server for surfing the internet. We have tried manually setting the IP address, but that did nothing. When I run winipcfg, the only adapter choice is PPP. Winipcfg does not see my network adapter, even though the netwok applet under control panel shows that tcp/ip is bound to the card. I don’t know what steps to take to make winipcfg see the correct adapter. I feel like if I can get winipcfg to see the pcmcia network adapter, then my problem will be fixed. I have already tried deleting all clients and protocols and reinstalling. I have also removed dial up networking and reinstalled

I hope this is not insulting….but, did you click on the drop down button next to PPP Adapter? When you start Winipcfg it always defaults to PPP information if you have dial-up networking adapter installed.

On properties of TCPIP- general- did you check the bottom box “make it my default protocol”?
      It might resolve it!
Also, try an updated driver for the PCMCIA card from the mfrs site.
Also, try removing the IPX/SPX, and Clients for Netware, setup the Client for Microsoft Networks, to logon to your domain, and see if you can then get authenticated by the server.

      Goog Luck!

Is TCP/IP bound to your netwoork adapter? IF you cannot get it to bind, then delete the card out of Network properties and then re-add the card. It should re-bind to the protocols you have installed.

      Best of Luck.
