Network Address translation in LINUX

By clark_james ·
I have a private LAN which is ofcourse having a private IP i.e. 88.88.88.0/255.255.255.0 and my ISP gave me only 15 public IP addresses i.e. 203.88.88.92-207/255.255.255.240. In order for me to connect my LAN to the internet, I have to use ipchain command in Linux... My questions are:
1. how will I configure my ipchain?
2. how will I put a range which public IP will be included in ipchain? For example the public IPs that I'm going to use will onjly be from 208.88.88.95-200/255.255.255.240

-= i need your expertise on these guys =-

Network Address translation in LINUX

by schannachie In reply to Network Address translati ...

Hi again,

As I see the second part of your problem is that the public net address. OK, don't worry the problem is realy simple.

1.- You have to set an IP address for your linuxbox. The most common is to set the lowest address to the your linuxbox, then set the gateway to the higest value. Using the address range you sended 208.88.88.95 for the linuxbox and 208.88.88.200 for the gateway, the netmask for the isp segment is obviously 255.255.255.240.

2.- Be shure that the net card has this setting with the ifconfig command.

3.- With the same command check the inside net card (the one you use to reach your LAN).

good luck !
