Network Neighborhood Icon is Missing

By bradleyr ·
One of my users is missing a network neighborhood icon (Win98 is the OS). It is not in the recycle bin and i can't find it. How do i get it back or where in Windows do i get a new one?

I think if you just rename (or delete if you prefer) the pwl files on the system and get the person to reidentify themselves by logging back into the station, the network neighborhood should come back.

The other thing you can check for, is if there was a policy put in place. Open up poledit and check to see if the hide network neighborhood is checked.

Good luck to you

Mark

Usually you can get to the network properties through Control Panel. Windows only displays the icon if you have a networking client installed (i.e. Netware or Microsoft) Dialup networking and Windows family login do not ccount as a network so it does not bother to display the icon. Another possiblity is that your user used a tool like tweak UI or others to hack the registry into not displaying it. Which ever tool they used TWEAKUI from MS may bring it back? Good Luck!

I have had to do this myself, go to another machine ( that has what you need) and copy the control file and the control.ini and Paste them under c:windows and then copy control.inf and paste it under c:windows\system
