Network or RAS

by jgam . Updated 23 years, 8 months ago

I’ve got to be making this harder than it is. I appreciate any help.
We have a small home office P2P network with a central PC and several notebooks, all running Win 2K. The central PC has a RAS program and dial in modem so I can access it office from MY home office. Problem – Whenever I dial in, that PC becomes isolated from the network. Most disturbing since it is the printer server and the file storage for our Word and accounting program files. I tried the MSKB and couldn’t find anything to help. Is this lockout normal (by design)? Or is there a work-around? I have on occasion forgotten to call in to warn everyone I’m RAS-ing in and have locked everyone out of that machine until I finished.

I don’t know if it is related, but when trying to troubleshoot another sitation I tried to ping out from that PC and got the message that ping is not a recognizable command…etc. Nothing in the MSKB about that either.

Any suggestions?
