Networking XP hardwired with VISTA wireless

by home585 . Updated 18 years, 6 months ago

I have a home network using a Linksys WRT54G Version 6.
Conditions.
2 XP desk tops direct attach
1 Win98 old lap top wireless attached.
replacing old lap top with new running VISTA

Old lap top worked fine, could access the internet and share files with every machine and access printers.

Installed new VISTA powered lap top, set up access and can access internet. Still can not see or use file or printer sharing from this new lap top. It is all set up as per insturctions.

Installing Lynksys easy network advisor on my desk top and the new lap top shows everything is ok. I can see the who network from either direction. (this is from the router point of view.

When trying to use the start \\device name
to set up the attachment it is refused saying the network I was trying to attach to is public.

Both sides are set up as private, both have the same workgroup name etc.

Any one any suggestions as to what will allow this network to work together. PS.. the EP portion still works fine as far as file and print sharing goes.

Harry
