New laptop drops my Wireless signal

By jakepp ·
Hi,

I have a wireless router DGL-4300. It supports 802.11g/b and it has never given me any problems until now.
I recently purchased a new laptop with an Intel? WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/b/g/Draft-N). I can connect to my AP but it drops my connection for no reason. I have ran both my old and new laptop but only the new laptop gets disconnected from the network from time to time.

Has anyone experience something similar with your equipment?

Thank you.

edit:
I have the latest firmware for the wireless router, v8 but now D-link removed the v8 and left only v7. Maybe I should go back to v7 and see if it helps.

I will also try using a Linksys WAP54G and see if its the router or the Intel card.

I would try changing the router's channel....

by ---TK--- In reply to New laptop drops my Wirel ...

"Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels. In the United States and Canada, these channels are 1, 6, and 11. Just like you'll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Try changing your wireless router's channel through your router's configuration page to see if your signal strength improves. You don't need to change your computer's configuration, because it'll automatically detect the new channel."

**this can also help when wireless connections constantly drop... like your situation.

What OS are you using here?

Much more importantly what does the NB Maker say about this problem?

If one NB works OK and the other one doesn't you start to Trouble Shoot by looking at the one failing the connection not the device it is connecting to that another computer can work with without a problem.

Ubuntu 8.10 and XP pro. Its strange because last night I had no problems, the wireless signal didn't drop my connection.
