New laptop, Win 10 has stopped responding

    by erzeek ·

Brand new laptop. I start it up, follow all the setup process and the laptop starts up just fine. As the first step, I plan to check for new updates and just get the updates out of the way. I check for new updates and it’s a list of 30 updates. 20 of them download and install just fine.

But the other 10 require a restart. One of them is KB5012599. The problem is that laptop has stopped responding !! Can’t restart, can’t minimize the settings window, can’t see the taskbar. I can only move around my cursor.

Why is windows so bad ?! Why can’t they get a simple thing like their own OS update right ?! So frustrating !!!

Microsoft didn’t make the computer; they designed the software and can’t always prevent a bad installation (not blaming you). Since it is a “New” computer, this should be a warranty issue if you can’t resolve the problem.

Truth be told, these types of issues are rare but “stuff happens”.

What happens if you turn it off with the on/off button, and then on again?
      It might fix itself.

      Update is not simple enough.

For example it’s very easy to install apps that break Windows update. Once the machine is in our hands, we can break Windows. If that’s a problem then we need to look at other than Windows. Chromebooks have been great about “hard to break.”

You can try to reinstall Windows and then do the updates as you did before, but without installing the KB5012599 update
