New profile and contacts about to go live

By sMoRTy71 ·
Just wanted to give all of you a heads up that the new profile page with the contacts functionality is about to go live any minute.

So please take a minute this evening to fill out your interests, your bio and add some members to your contacts list.

BTW, to add members to your contacts, just go to their profile page and click the "Add to my contacts" link under their photo.

In our next phase, we will allow you to search for members by alias (instead of hunting for them). For now though, you will need to go profile to profile.

Let me know what you all think. Also let us know if you find any bugs.

Recent Activity

by TheChas In reply to New profile and contacts ...

I took a look at my profile.

The recent discussions and questions caught my eye.

The list is just as random as the My Discussions and My questions list have been.

Looking at Recent Questions, one of the questions listed I posted my answer some time ago.
The question was just closed today.

Same with the Discussions.
At least 1 of the discussions on my list I last posted to several days ago.

I'm not ashamed of what I have posted, or answers I have given.
However, if the list is suppossed to be "recent" activity should it not give priority to the most recent postings?

That may be a bug

by sMoRTy71 In reply to Recent Activity

Let me look into that. It should be sorted by most recent posts.

I think it is tracked similar to the My Discussions link that keeps the most recently changed topic (even if by another peer) at the top of the list.

This way you can see any discussions that you have participated in (at any time) that have been most recently added to.

Correct me if this wasn't what you meant though

So That's how that works

by TheChas In reply to Chas

I was having all kinds of problems attempting to fathom the order of my subscribed and participated discussions.

Thanks for the info.

One good thing!

They did not loose our list of subscribed discussions this time.

Another issue: Top 100 status missing

by sMoRTy71 In reply to New profile and contacts ...

I've noticed that the "#1 of Top 100 members" links have disappeared from the member signatures and profile pages. We're looking into that.

I looked for a new thread real quickly but got side tracked and ended up posting to my very own, 2nd thread instead. Sorry!

Anyhow, all that I said here:

oh...and here:

But just to emphasize....I WANT MY DISCUSSIONS BACK!!

Noticed you stripped points out of Tech Q&A stats to, yet all the questions still show point values. Will you keep the points system in Q&A anyway?

For now, the points system is unchanged. We left them off of the profile page with the intention of replacing them at some point. However, we don't have a replacement plan, so points will probably be hanging around "as-is" for a while.

My Discussions link

by sMoRTy71 In reply to DOH

I'll see where we can squeeze that link back in.

BTW, in the meantime, you could just add some contacts and other info to your new profile page :)

What that self-promotion too obvious?

I'm beginning to really miss that My Discussions link. Really. Please?

By the way, a nice thing to include in the profile view might be a profile search function, so that we can search for other profiles by name from a profile. For instance, if I was looking at Col's profile and wanted to jump to house's profile, and they didn't have each other contact-listed, I could enter "house" in the search and find it quickly without having to hunt down a link to house's profile.

Or, y'know, the site code could be rewritten so that the username is in the URL for the user's profile. Heh.
