    by dissectingsound ·

JUST FYI BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY. IM NEW TO THIS FORUM AND I POSTED UP ON THIS FORUM WITH A SIMILAR ACCOUNT NAME AND SAID SOME STUFF THAT PPL ON HERE DIDN’T LIKE AND NOW I CAN’T LOG INTO MY HOTMAIL ADDRESS AND THEY ARE DELETING POSTS ON ANOTHER FORUM. I WASN’T GOING TO POST UP ON HERE AGAIN BUT AFTER THAT I FELT THE NEED TO TELL ANYONE NEW TO BE CAREFUL WHO YOU CONVERSE WITH ON HERE.

ALSO EVEN IF YOUR TRYING TO GET HELP YOU MIGHT HAVE PROBLEMS. THIS OTHER PERSON POSTED A LINK TO SOME FIREWALL SOFTWARE THAT I SHOULD TRY AND I NEVER INSTALLED IT BUT RESEARCHED IT AND IT HAD A TROJAN IN IT.

JUST BE CAREFUL SOME OF THE PPL THAT REGULARLY POST ON THIS FORUM SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED.

    HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE!

      Really now,

      by Anonymous ·

In reply to NEW SIGN UPS

You do not need to yell at every one.

Sorry about your security problems; it sounds like you need to be a little more careful of your passwords and possibly not use the same one for every site you visit. After all passwords are sent plain text here and any one, any where in the chain can view them. You need to check your system as well because you just might have a backdoor in it, this is fairly common in a Windows box.

The people on this site mostly have better things to do than run around playing in others accounts. If you were a bank or fortune 500, well maybe… but you are a nobody, so why bother?

Trojans are common in any freeware on the net, try again.

Finally, working with computers and software every day, I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing so dangerous to a computer or system security as an uninformed end user. I have seen people complain about virus when they either have no anti virus or it is has been expired for over a year, I have seen someone take a working computer out the door, reach their car and delete the wireless drivers and walk back in the door complaining that the wireless does not work when they checked it before they walked out the door. I have seen people like you click on a phishing link and complain when money leaves their bank account. One of the most stupid things I have seen is with one user who repeatedly sets his power switch from 120 to 220 and then complains that the computer does not work; the first two or three times the switch was reset and the computer was sent home free, the next time $5.00 was charged, the next $15.00, the next 25.00, yesterday, $50.00. There is a lot you seem to assume, are you like this guy?

        Sorry I wasn’t screaming,

        by dissectingsound ·

        In reply to Really now,

I just had caps lock on….

There are a lot of people that use the same password for a lot of sites so they don’t have to remember them all. If someone is pulling passwords from posts and using them they are doing something wrong. And if this is so then the site needs to be fixed so that is not possible.

I do not have a virus. I have a virus scanner running. I have a firewall setup. As you can see in the original post I never installed that software. Trojans drop off bad things or overwrite core windows components. I’m not assuming anything, just simply telling new signups to be careful.

That hotmail account didn’t matter to me. So no worries. I have been on forums before and I know the dangers of putting your personal info on them because there are bad people out there that will search for that private info and mess with you.

If its an admin or moderator that has the ability to read passwords and mess with people then that issue needs to be addressed also.

I’m just trying to be a good person and let the people know that don’t know. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

          Pulling passwords

          by Tammy.Cavadias ·

In reply to Sorry I wasn’t screaming,

Members can not pull passwords from a “post” as you claim. Moderators also do not have access to members passwords.

Since your “old” TR account is active and you have managed to successful log into as of today, I would make this suggestion to you – one log back in – change both your user id (so its not your email addy) and change your password. If you have forgotten your password, you can have it reset.

          -Tammy 🙂

          kinda strange

          by dissectingsound ·

          In reply to Pulling passwords

It was my hotmail that was changed…

I have had that junk hotmail for some time now, never had any problems loging into it before I started posting on here. kinda strange that that happened and posts on other sites were deleted after just posting on here.

I know its possible for forums to log ips, as well as other info.

So its not your TR account..

          by Tammy.Cavadias ·

          In reply to kinda strange

but your hotmail account having trouble? If that is the case then why the new TR account? You could have simply changed your user id and your email addy for your “old” account. And changed your password as well.

Regarding your hotmail account, I might suggest you contact Microsoft and have them investigate the reason behind your being unable to access.

          -Tammy 🙂

          new T.R.

          by dissectingsound ·

In reply to So its not your TR account..

I got the new T.R. account for consistency.

Like I said I made up that junk hotmail account just in case something like this would happen.

Everything with my real hotmail account is fine.

Thanks for taking a look into it.

          TR Moderators

          by tig2 ·

In reply to Sorry I wasn’t screaming,

          Do not know your password.

This board is mostly self moderated. We have a moderator that we share with a couple of sister sites.

However your hotmail was hacked, it did not come from anyone here.

Starting a thread with your capslock on is not the best way to introduce yourself to this community.

          Your computer ignorance is glaring

          by jdclyde ·

In reply to Sorry I wasn’t screaming,

There is nothing “pulled” from your posting on TR.

The only way someone could get it is if you got yourself a keystroke logger on your system, which means you brought it upon yourself.

This is not a hacker community, and it would be rare to have an issue such as you so poorly described.

A tip for you in the future. Have TWO passwords. One for important things and one for unimportant things.

What software link has a trojan?

      by Tammy.Cavadias ·

In reply to NEW SIGN UPS

Can you provide the url of the thread in which you claim has a link to a software program that contains a trojan?

Also, I don’t quite understand what you mean when you say you can no longer log into your hotmail account? Your hotmail account has no connections with your account here in TR. Unless you mean you can not log into your “old” TR account using your user id which happens to be your email addy? If this is the case, then there is no reason for you not to be able to log in, as we show you successfull managed to log in one hour before you created this new account as of today.

If you are still experincing problems with your account feel free to email me and we can further invesitgate.

It was called Ghostwall, it is true that a lot of freeware has Trojan’s in it, but that’s not good. Who knows whats in that Trojan

Ghostwall reviews, I haven’t tried to mess with it, I like my current firewall.

          by boxfiddler ·

          In reply to Thread

That thread is full of responses from people who know their stuff. I find it pretty unlikely that a trojan could get past them.

          Thanks, however…

          by Tammy.Cavadias ·

          In reply to Thread

it sounds like you received a false positive on this software. I just downloaded it and installed on it my other computer without any warnings.

While there is some folks who do “intentionally” place trojans into freeware/trialware in this case I don’t believe its so. Also, this member did not provide a link to that software program, they meerly made a suggestion on what they use.

For security one should always research first before downloading any type of freeware/trialware, including the site in which they choose to download it from. Softpedia is one of the sites that happens to not only check the software they list but also gives a guarentee – http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/GhostWall.shtml

          what virus scanner

          by dissectingsound ·

          In reply to Thanks, however…

Which virus scanner did you use? I have found that some virus scanners find some viruses that other virus scanners do not.

Just becuase the site that posted it says its guarenteed doesn’t mean its true…

          I have three..

          by Tammy.Cavadias ·

In reply to what virus scanner

to be exact – AVG, Kaspersky and Trend Micro. I also run Spy-bot and Ad-ware, along with a Firewall.

If you’re wondering why so many programs – its because that is the computer I use to test software for trojans/viruses/malware/adware/etc…

While it is true that while one can pick up something another doesn’t, I’ve found the likelyhood of these three not decting any type of trojan in this program for it to actually have one is highly unlikely.

We appreciate your thoughfullness of alerting folks to becareful, however I was under the impression that a member was actually giving out a link to a program that contained a trojan when they simply mentioned what they prefer – they did not provide a link and they did not suggest you download it, they merely mentioned what they prefer to use themselves.

          -Tammy 🙂

Great, Thanks for taking the time to research it.

Hopefully your not mass mailing out stuff or explorer.exe or some other core windows component wasn’t overwrote, becuase I highly doubt your virus scanners would find explorer.exe a virus.

I doubt it is a virus your probably right. I personally don’t mess with things that are questionable.

In reply to only confirming what i first posted

There is a core of old-timers, like myself, who watch out for questionable things on the site. We are generally the first to hit the SPAM button, the first to post warnings if something isn’t quite right, and the first people to tell a newcomer when they are putting a foot wrong.

Let me suggest to you that you lurk more. Get to know the posters and their posting style. Figure out who you think you can trust.

There are people on this board that I have known and consider close friends for many years. This is dissimilar to many other forums in that respect.

Enjoy the site and enjoy your stay. If you have questions, by all means, ask them. Someone will have an answer for you.
