Newsgroup Messages won't open in Outlook Express

By ChicagoTech ·
I am migrating from one machine to another - both with Windows XP, SP2, Office 2003 Professional - from a laptop to a desktop. Both on DSL broadband.
On the laptop, using Outlook Express, I can see the list of newsgroups that I've subscribed to, and when I double-click on one of them, it enters that specific newsgroup, where I can see the list of messages, then click on any one, and open the message to read and reply to.
On the desktop, I can't see any setting differences (although I'm sure that is something somewhere). I can see the list of newsgroups to subscribe to, and can in fact successfully subscribe to them. I can see the same list, side by side on the laptop and desktop - when I attempt to enter any specific newsgroup, the screen flashes, and I'm back at the list of newsgroups. I am unable to actually enter any newsgroup and view the messages.

Both systems have Office 2003 Professional installed (two separate License numbers) Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Outlook Express

I would appreciate any assistance, and will be happy to provide whatever other information I can that might be of assistance.

edit: added "newsgroup" to title
