NIC card not showing in winipcfg

By mjj4golf ·
Installed Linksys 10/100 Etherfast lan card. Installed ok and both computers see each other fine with netbeui. But with tcp/ip, it installs fine and able to put in an ip adrs. However, winipcfg doesn't show the adapter. A netgear adapter was previously installed but removed.

NIC card not showing in winipcfg

Boot to safe mode and make sure that all traces of the previous adapter is gone from both device manager and from control panel --> network.

If this look fine in safe mode, I'd recommend that you remove the nic in safemode, shutdown, open the computer and remove the nic. Then power up and start the computer, then reinstall win9x on top of your current windows (95 or 98 will reinstall without having to reinstall any of the applications that you have previously installed) installation. Then WHEN DONE, shutdown again, and reinsert the nic and then power up and let windows detect the card. Be ready with the drivers.

Just a thought, because I've done this a few times, but the NIC area does have a dropdown that'll show multiple adapters like a 2nd NIC or the dialup adapter for modem connections.

It sounds like your nic is installed correctly. Only idea I have after that is that it's some sort of customized version of winipcfg and probobly just extracting a new one would cure this.

Hi,

I'm kind of with Anna on this one. I suspect you may have somehow set up IP on the old adaptor.

Before you bother with safe mode etc etc, I'd simply go to the devices manager...right click my computer select properties, look at devices taband expand the Network devices to see what you have.

If the old one is still there, it'll probably have a "!" by it and you should remove it.

Then after the reboot, go through your IP configuration again and see how you go!

Cheers,
Tim.

Thanks. There was a nic card for the dls modem installed also. That 3com nic was showing in winipcfg but not the linksys. I removed both physically and software. I then put them back in the reverse pci slots. Then installed the SW.
That did it.
