you can try to customize the kernel and select the appropriate nic. If the nic is working it should work.

If your bios has a setting for Plug and Play OS, try setting it to Disable and reboot.

If that doesn't work, see if you can download Linux drivers from the card maker.

run "control-panel" under X-windows, look in the kernel config module and make sure the module for your NIC is loaded.
If you know what module should be loaded for your NIc you could try insmod from the terminal after boot initially, just to see ifanything complains.
If you have kudzu (the plug and play software under redhat, I may have misspelt that and I'm not going to boot into linux at the mo) running you can check it's config file to see if it has actually found your card (it's in etc somewhere)

that should get you started.

u could try to use the module by the name: rtl8139 which would work with standard NICs. ur NIC was not detected during the installation process probably because the kernel couldnt find the specific module (driver in windows language) in its database. but u could install the module specified above by running the "netconf " utility and changing the module for the Adaptor No.1 or whatever it is on ur machine.
hope this helps u
rgds,
mayur
