No changes in Outlook Public Inbox

By mbrundieck ·
I have Outlook set-up in an office using Exchange and Public folders.
Everyone sees incoming e-mail, but when one person reads and responds, it is still "Unread" on everyone elses machine.
You you have to write script to change everyone else's view or is there a setting that takes care of this?

Thanks

This issue is addressed in 2 differnt MS Knowledgebase articles. See the articles Q215335 and Q188631. You can access the Knowledgebase at:
http://support.microsoft.com/servicedesks/technet/

Then click on the link, 'Search the Knowledge Base'. Then search for the article numbers I gave you above.

Thanks for the insight. The atricle pointed out how to turn off the "unread" highlighting feature, but it doesn't address the document management issue with e-mail.
If several people use the same e-mail address to respond to queries, then when onepicks up the unread e-mail and responds to it, then the others need to see that the e-mail was addressed, either by the e-mail being displayed as read and replied to or by moving the e-mail out of the inbox and filed in another folder.

This is the function of the program and with any email program taht you have if you have a shared public email folder untill everyone reads that email it will show unread.

Thanks for your response.
Is the way that Outlook and Exchange set-up, so that one's Outlook only has a copy of e-mails on the client and any changes, such as moving the e-mail to another folder or showing the e-mail as replied to won't show up onthe other Outlook clients?

While the "document management" issue wasn't clearly stated in the original question, I'll point you in the right direction for that. I am assuming that you have Exchange 5.5 that supports server side scripting. It would require scripting to automatically move the messages to another folder. I would suggest a Home Page for the folder if you are using Outlook 2000. I would sugest the following book for reference on how to do this and lots more with Exchange and Outlook, 'Programming Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange' from Microsoft Press by Thomas Rizzo (ISBN 0-7356-0509-2). If you are not using Exchange 5.5 and Office 2000, it may be able to be done, but good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I thought server-side scripting would have to be involved. I will look for the answer to setting up a Home page and to configuring the public folder in the MS Press book.
