No DHCP Lease – requires release & renew

by paulfisher . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

Hi,

Problem: Win 98SE workstations (normally laptops) require a ‘winipcfg.exe’ release/renew to obtain a DHCP lease, even when booted up from the network! (This also happens on some desktops which are permanently on the LAN… (?!)

(Note: The article Q194790 is not relevant, because we are on SE)

Some Details: NT 4 Server, single scope DHCP, Class ‘C’ subnet. All default values in DHCP manager, apart from ‘003 Router entry’, which simply contains the router IP address…

-I’m thinking this is a server DHCP manager issue, because straight builds cannot see the DHCP server 1st off, or its a switch autoswitch type problem with the initial ‘DHCPDISCOVER’ and ‘DHCPREQUEST’ not hitting a server.

all ideas welcome!

thanks in advance,

Paul.
