No mouse detected?

By kingnqueen ·
I'm running a Mitac PH5400 V p233 board with 40megs ram, win 95 bare bones. When booting up I get a "no mouse detected" message". The board came used with no ps/2 port. Pins 4,5 & 7 have voltage which seems odd as my other boards have pins 3,4 & 7 with voltage. Anyone else run into this problem? Can the pins with voltage be changed or is a proprietary cable needed to run a serial mouse? Mouse is a Microsoft Wheel mouse. No modem installed. Com 1 enabled in the bios. Latest BIOS flashed for thisboard. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No need to check on those voltages...you wouldn't understand them anyway.

If your Microsoft Wheel Mouse is a Serial mouse, then the following might work for you :

Just plug your serial mouse into COM1...when starting up Windows 95, ignore any error message which might appear. Press CTRL + ESC and go to Program -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager. Remove all drivers you see there under the Mouse device and thn restart your Windows 95. It will automatically detect your Serial mouseagain.

If Windows can't detect the mouse, try different serial mouses and make sure they are properly plugged in.

Good luck.
