mm chipset? usb drivers..

ok it gets deeper. so i can use the pc i reinstalled windows in another file on the same hd and on the same pc.. all works fine so i recon it is a software problem.
I do not know enough to be able to try this but bet it would work. if i knew which files to copy over from the working copy of windows to the one not working (ie all the drivers and config type files this might cure it? the only file i can think of is the syst 32 folder.. any ideas or will copying that over just completely **** the original copy of windows apart?

thx.
