No Power to Dell Latitude D600

By kharris ·
I plug power cord in wall, the light on box comes on. Once I plug the other end of power cord into laptop, the light on box goes off and I have no power to laptop. Easy fix -- or too costly?

Cost all depends on what's wrong

Does the laptop boot with the battery?

Try removing the laptop battery, then try it with the AC power adapter.

Also try removing/unplugging all peripherals, in case something is shorted out.

Is it a Dell-branded power supply?

Is there any sign of damage to the laptop power connector, or does it look like it's loose?

If it's just a bad power supply or battery, that's a $40 repair. If it's a bad motherboard, that would not be worth fixing.
