non-existant public folders in directory

Exchange server crashed last year, was able to salvage priv and pub mdb’s, but had to re-create directory. Ever since then there are a couple of public folders that show up in the directory (inside Exchange Admin) but do not show up in Outlook clients. When I try to create Pub Folder with same name, Outlook says folder already exists with that name. Is there a way to re-sync everything up again?
