Norton Anti Virus 5.0 network update

By Marty2001 ·
My network is configured to use live update NAV5.0 and it has an option called network (instead of internet and modem). Two PCs do not have this option (They have the standard internet/modem options).
I can not see how the system is set up. There is nothing in the login script.
I have searched Symantecs home page and downloaded luseup.exe to get the ftp and http download option for the client.
But this is not what the other W95 PCs have.
Does anyone know what file/program used to be used toattain the network configuration option? I did not even find where the other PCs are getting their live update definitions. However - they are scheduled to run live update - network, and all their definitions are up to date.
I suspect it is something to do with the release of intelligent updater, but can not find any information.
thanks in advance

Marty

Norton Anti Virus 5.0 network update

by BuffaloDan In reply to Norton Anti Virus 5.0 net ...

It's called Norton Anti-Virus Enterprise Edition.

Seems that most of your workstations had Norton Anti-Virus installed with a defined Anti_virus enterprise server, That enterprise server is responsible for connecting to Norton for def file updates, and distributing them to workstations.

the other 2 workstations may have come on-line at a different time, and were not configured to update from your enterprise server.

You would need to know the exact server name (or address) that is responsible for distributing the update, then re-install NAV on these 2 workstations, pointing to the server name for the updates.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the help: I found the answer at Symantec:
In order for client computers to retrieve definition and product updates from your internal LiveUpdate server, you must configure a new host file and distribute it to all clients.
1. Start LU Admin and click Host File Editor.
2. Click the File menu, click New, and then click Host File.
The Description fields are arbitrary. Type the name of your server.
The Login Name and Password fields are used only for FTP or HTTP servers, not forshared directories. If you are using an FTP or HTTP server, enter the appropriate data.
3. Under Connection, type the UNC path to your shared directory, or the URL or IP address of your FTP or HTTP server.
4. Choose the appropriate option under Type; choose either LAN, FTP, or HTTP.
5. Click File, and click Save As.
6. In the Save As dialog box:
In the File name box, type liveupdt.hst
Save the file to the Desktop or a location in which you easily will be able to find it.

NOTE: Do not save the Liveupdt.hst file to \Program Files\Symantec\Liveupdate folder or to the computer running LiveUpdate Administrator.

7. Copy the Liveupdt.hst file you just created to each client computer. This file must reside in the C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate folder on each client computer.
8. Copy the S32luhl1.dll file to the same folder on all clients if it does not already exist. This file can be found in the C:\Program Files\LiveUpdate Administration Utility folder on the computer on which the LiveUpdate Administration Utility is installed.
9. Starting LiveUpdate from client systems should retrieve updates from the local LiveUpdate server.
