A client had two viruses–vbs.loveletter.a and w32/magistr.a. I first tried to install the AntiVirus 2001 in NT 4.0 SP5 and
received an error message “NVAP not found. Please reinstall.” I uninstalled the product using the uninstall tool. Then, I ran an
ALERT removal tool in DOS to remove the viruses. When I tried to reinstall the antivirus program in NT, I kept getting a “setup.exe file not found” error message. I checked the CD and the file was there. Even
when clicking on the setup.exe file to run, it said it couldn’t find the file. Also, I tried to run the install using f:\setup.exe from the Run command. Finally, after several tries, the product installed and ran Live Update. However, now when we try
to click on AntiVirus Options, it won’t do anything. When we click on Scan, it says that the scanner is not installed.
We’ve ran online scans two more times and also ran the sircam removal too, which didn’t find any virus. I’ve tried to reinstall the software, but get the same error message that setup.exe is not found.
What is the best way to proceed? Thanks in advance.
