Norton Internet 2005 Blocks

By BorgInva ·
Windows XP SP2
I have a minor issue that I can not figure out. I got 2 PCs running NIS 2005. When Personal Firewall is active on both, only one PC can access the Internet. The settings are both the same. I can not figure out what is wrong. Neither prompts me when a program tried to access the net, but still one can with no problem.
PF settings are as it for BOTH PCs:
Firewall tab
- Slider set : PF High, Java Med, AX Med, both boxes checked
- Programs box checked.
- Networking shows correct local network info.
- Location is Home and active.

Again, both PCs set up the same exact way, but only 1 can access the net.
Any ideas?

are you using two NIS 2k5's or the same ones but you installed on both? Companies like to make you get one for EACH comp just to make more money but i havent done something like this myself, so i might be wrong.

Same one on 2 PCs. I disagree with buying multiple copies for multiple computers you own in the same room.

try urning of the firewall and see if you can access the internet.

also one the pc that can access the internet, do a ping to, it will mention a ip adress.
then on the one that can not access internet, do ping to that ip adress.
if it can ping but you can not browse, the problem is a incorrect fns setting, or that (in combination with that you can browse while the firewall is off) that in the firewall you have a setting blocking dns requests.
then clear all those settings and start over again.

The problem is gone. I had to format the PC (Windows Installer got corrupted) and the problem does not persist.
