Try swapping the slots round . . .

by OldER Mycroft In reply to not recognizng additional ...

Put the 1GB in the FIRST slot, with the 512MB in the second.

If that doesn't work, take the 512MB out, leaving the 1GB in the first slot. Does that work?

If not then it's the RAM that's wrong.

If an employee of PCWorld tells me it's raining outside I'll still check (even if they are all wet!).

How did they know what spec of RAM was hidden beneath your keyboard?

I, wrongly, assumed both slots were situated in a tandem fashion.

Try the 1 GIG Stick by itself

If it works to the POST Stage turn off and insert the 512 MEG stick and try to POST again. If it doesn't work now you have a Timing Problem between the RAM Sticks.

If it didn't work the first time you have a shot RAM Stick or at the very least one that is not within Spec for the Sony.

Sony provides detailed instructions on RAM replacement on their web site. I think this is your model

Look up the ram at Kingston.com to see if you have the right one.
