Notebook display issue

By ihutchings ·
I am trying to fix a problem with an RM Notebook (CY25). When loading up Windows XP the screen is totally normal - bright and clear. As soon as Windows has loaded, you can see the backlight switch off and the screen goes very dark - you can see the system working normally beneath the gloom of the screen. I have tried to fix the problem by starting up in Safe Mode - in this mode you can see the screen working normally - so I know that there is not a problem with the backlight. I have tried updating the drivers but the computer says that all systems are working normally. This is very frustrating - any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Just a thought

Does the machine have a sensor for auto brightness? It could be faulty causing the screen to darken when windows starts.

Laptop Power Settings

by cain1k In reply to Notebook display issue

In your control panel under power, have you checked the settings you have set? I know if i mess with mine it alters the settings on my laptop for brightness because it sets it to help save energy on the battery. This would explain why in safe mode you'd be fine because you don't have those settings being loaded.
